The above are special comics that have joined under the FWC banner. These strips make a particular commitment to providing content that is friendly for all-ages.

Welcome to Family Webcomics!

Family Webcomics is a new information site containing listings, reviews, and a variety of related content. With over 12,000 webcomics on the internet featuring a wide range of material from all-ages to porn, it can be difficult and time-consuming for a parent or educator to weed through all of the offerings and find strips suitable for their children. That’s why this site was created. FWC provides a place where you can not only view webcomic listings, but evaluate their content based on an extensive list of content elements and attributes.

To find out more about this site and our mission statement, visit our FAQ. To learn more about our rating system, click here.

In addition, this site offers more than simple listings, but also allows users to rate comics and leave comments, as well as enjoy social-networking features which allow creators and readers to connect. In the future, we will be offering webcomic reviews with a specific focus on the “family-friendliness” of the strip.

If you are interested in submitting your site, click here for more details.

***Please Note, if you previously had a comic listing on our old site, you must re-submit your listing. We apologize for the inconvenience, however we are using a brand new database and we were unable to port the old listings over.***

Getting Back on Track

The bad news was that the last few months have been very hard for us. We finance Family Webcomics and our other online projects totally with out-of-pocket funds. During bad economic times, that makes things particularly hard. As many of you know, Jim has been out of work for 2 years. That has meant both of use have been doing a lot of side work to help make ends meet. One project, in particularly, sucked up a good deal of the last couple of months.

The good news is that the massive project is done! We are hopeful that it will help support FWC in the future (but more on that at another time). We are very happy to announce we have been once again working hard on the site. We have been adding new comics periodically during this slow period, but we hope to get back to our planned updating now. In addition, Jim has had the time to do some coding, so we now have rotating featured comic, as well as the cover art for the front page. We are going to be adding a new section on the front page that will show the most recently added comics. Plus, we have a few other things planned.

The best news is despite the relatively slowness of the site, FWC still continues to grow. We are getting more and more visitors and creators continue to join our ranks. We want to thank everyone for their support during this time and hope you’ll continue in the future.

The Tweaking Continues

Now that we have a good number of comic profiles, we have enabled the filters on the listing pages, and have updated the search pages. Also, the User button at the time now brings you to the main User list, not the User search. Jim is also working on the “favorites” module for comics, which will allow users to become a “fan” of a strip. More goodies are coming.

A reminder to everyone, both comic and user profiles can be enhanced with avatars and pictures. Simply click on the link below the picture in the upper left of the profile, and you can upload graphics.

Call for Cover Art

We are really excited and appreciative that we’ve had some great coverart for the site donated by several of the artists listed here at the site. We would like to have a few more submissions to cover us through upcoming weeks/months. If you’re interested in donating a picture, head over to the Webcomics Chat Forum for more information.

Re-Open for Business

Well, it’s been a long several months, but we are very excited to announce we’re back! Family Webcomics shut down late last year as we started a major re-build of the site. Our previous site used a Drupal installation which worked okay, but didn’t allow us to do everything we wanted to. So, we ended up scrapping that and starting with something new entirely. What we have created is both more user-friendly, as well as webmaster friendly. Plus, without the bloat of the older system, the site should load quicker and run more smoothly.

The feedback we’ve gotten from parents and casual users is that they wanted one a one-stop place to find comics and read their favorites. Many of the enhancements of the new site were with that in mind. We didn’t set out to create a social network for comics, but we did incorporate some of those elements into the design to give creators and users more connectivity.

All of that said, as with any launch, the site is bound to have a few small glitches here and there. We’ll be pounding out any bugs over the next week. There are also a few minor tweaks Jim is making, but nothing that should hinder users from using and enjoying the site.

Again, we thank everyone for all of their support. We’re glad to be back, and we’re excited for the future. We do have more goodies planned for FWC in the future, so do be sure to keep checking back!

***Remember, in order to submit a comic listing, you must have an account. It’s easy and free. Just click on the link in the sidebard to start the process.***
